KI 0514 Export / copy files from SAFE server to Mac

(updated )
Guide on how to export files from your SAFE server. The guide is generic and should work if your Mac computer is managed or not.
The following drawing illustrates the method used to export data from your SAFE server. Note that newyork is an EXAMPLE server name. Yours will be named differently.

Again, note that newyork is an EXAMPLE server name.
To export files from the SAFE server:
  1. Identify the file you want to export on your SAFE server.
  2. Copy the file to the folder O:\Export on your SAFE server (Navigation: File Explorer -> This PC -> O: -> Export)

Within 10 minutes there will be a encrypted file in desktop.uib.no in the folder U:\nework.uib.no\Export which contains your exported files. The file is encrypted with a password, and you will find the password in your SAFE server in the file O:\Export\_passord.txt.
Both the filename on the exported file and the corresponding line in the password file indicates the date and time of the export.

To decrypt and copy/move the file to your own computer:
  1. Take a picture / write down the password from O:\Export\_passord.txt from the SAFE server. (Note that the date in the password file is not a part of the password)
  2. Disconnect from the SAFE server, and connect to desktop.uib.no with Windows App. Remember to switch back to normal VPN. (If you're not familiar with desktop.uib.no, se KI 0972 Connecting to desktop.uib.no from a Mac.)
  3. Once you're on desktop.uib.no, open File Explorer.
  4. Navigate to U:\newyork\Export where you will now find a locked file which contains the date of the export in its name.
  5. Right click the file (click with two fingers at the same time on touchpad).
  6. Click on 7-Zip and then 'Extract to "(filename)"'
  7. Write in the password from earlier. (The password from the _passord.txt file in SAFE.) When you have done this will 7-Zip create a folder with the same name as the encrypted/locked file, and in this folder you will find your exported files.
  8. To get them over to your Mac, copy / cut the folder (Ctrl+C / Ctrl+X).
  9. Then on your Mac, paste the folder to the desired location (Command+V)
If you need any help in the process, reach out to IT user support center BRITA.

NB! The project manager will receive a copy of any file you export.
