KI 3078 Migration of Whiteboards from Azure to OneDrive
(updated )
Files that are still in the old storage solution must be migrated, and this will only happen when you open the Whiteboard app (or Whiteboard in Teams/browser).
What is Whiteboard?
Whiteboard is a digital canvas tool for brainstorming, drawing, and real-time collaboration. Many have used or use it in Teams meetings or via browser/app for (personal) sketches and notes.
Whiteboard files were previously stored in Azure, but since 2022 new files have been stored in OneDrive for improved security and easier sharing.
What does this mean for you?
- Whiteboard files created before 2022 may still be in the old storage solution.
- These files will only be moved to OneDrive when Whiteboard is opened.
- Files can be restored for up to 90 days after migration.
- The IT department will send an email to users who have Whiteboards stored in the old solution in December 2025 and January 2026.
- In February 2026, the old storage solution will be shut down, and any Whiteboards not migrated will become inaccessible.
What do you need to do?
- Open the Whiteboard app, or Whiteboard via Teams or browser. Click here to open Whiteboard in your browser.
- If you have Whiteboards that haven’t been migrated, the migration will start and a banner at the top will show the status (see screenshots below).
