KI 2842 Adobe Acrobat

(updated )
Acrobat Reader is a free program for opening (reading and printing) PDF documents. Adobe Acrobat Pro is a program that must be purchased, which is used, among other things, to create and edit PDF documents.
Acrobat Reader
If you only need to open PDF documents to read, navigate and possibly print them, Acrobat Reader will do.

This program is free. It can be installed from Software Center on UiB PC, from Managed Software Center on UiB Mac and from Microsoft Store, Apple Store and several other places.
Adobe Acrobat Pro
If you are going to do advanced editing and production of PDF files, you will need Adobe Acrobat Pro. A license/subscription for this program must be purchased for one year at a time, in the same way as the other Adobe programs in Creative Cloud. (See KI 0956 What licenses are available in Adobe Creative Cloud? for more information.) Or you can (for the time being) buy a three-year license ("Acrobat Pro 2024 for teams"). The price for the latter cover all three years, so this is by far the cheapest option if you just need Acrobat Pro.

There are longer "one-time" or "ownership" licenses for Acrobat Pro, that option disappeared in 2024.
Other programs for handling PDF documents
For creation and simple handling of PDF documents, you may not need Acrobat Pro. A simpler and free program may suffice. Most programs can save files in PDF format with their saving og printing functions. If you need to merge or split PDF documents, rotate pages etc., you can use, among other options, PDFsam (PDF Split and Merge).
